Know Before You Apply For A Student Scholarship

Thinking about applying for the Inteleos Foundation Student Scholarship for ultrasound certification? Here’s what you need to know before you get started, including answers to frequently asked questions. Please review all eligibility requirements before you begin your application.

Eligibility Criteria

Who can apply?
Applicants must be actively working toward a career as a healthcare provider (e.g., sonographer, nurse practitioner, physician) and demonstrate financial need for ultrasound certification. Only applicants who are ready to sit for their certification exam before June 30, 2026 will be considered for this recruitment cycle for certification scholarships. Those taking exams after June 30, 2026, should apply in May of 2026. 

What is the commitment?
You must show a strong commitment to advancing the field of ultrasound and be prepared to implement ultrasound in your clinical practice upon certification. 

What documentation is required?
Applicants must provide a resume/CV, and LinkedIn profile for credential verification, and a professional reference from a faculty member of your ultrasound training program. 

Who gets priority?
Students who exhibit the greatest financial hardship in obtaining their ultrasound certification, with additional consideration of applicants from limited-resource and underserved communities. The Foundation also welcomes applicants from diverse backgrounds, training programs, and clinical specialties. 

Program Details

What does the scholarship cover?
Scholarships can be used for exams or certifications from ARDMS, APCA, and the POCUS Certification Academy (PCA), and are valid for one year after selection. Students may request scholarships for an introductory certificate, in addition to one advanced certification. 

Should I pick ARDMS, APCA or the POCUS Certification Academy (PCA)?

We recommend reviewing the certification offerings of our three ultrasound councils prior to applying for an ultrasound certification scholarship. Please do your own research regarding which certification would fit you and your career best. Here are the websites for your review: 

    • ARDMS – for Sonographers who have completed 2- or 4-year ultrasound training programs, seeking RDMS, RDCS, RVT and RMSKS certifications. 
    • APCA – for Physicians with formal ultrasound training, seeking credentials in ABVM, CBCCT, CBNC, CBCMR, RPVI, RPVI-China and RMSK. 
    • PCA – Globally recognized Point-of-Care Ultrasound certifications available for all healthcare providers who have received some training in ultrasound, relevant to their specialty. 

How are recipients selected?
Selection is conducted by a panel of ultrasound experts and members of the Foundation leadership, and is based on a set of criteria that determines financial need and readiness for certification. 

Scholarship Timeline

Application Period: May 1 – May 31, 2025
Submit your application during this window. 

Awardee Notification: July 1, 2025
Selected scholarship recipients will be awarded, and non-selected applicants will be notified. 

Certification Deadline: June 30, 2026
Awardees must register, utilize their scholarship funds, and complete their certification exam by June ‘26. All awardees will be required to inform the Foundation on the outcome of their exam by June 30, 2026. 

Please Note: The Inteleos Foundation does not provide a cash award or reimbursement for Scholarships. Instead, recipients will have their certification exam fees paid directly to ARDMS, APCA, or the POCUS Certification Academy or receive a voucher code for certification; no funds are ever exchanged with the recipient.

Q: What types of certifications does the scholarship support?

Q: Can I use the scholarship for other educational expenses?
A: No, the scholarship is specifically for ultrasound certification exams and credential-related fees. 

Q: Do I need to be enrolled in a specific program?
A: You should be a current student or a recent graduate or resident of a formalized ultrasound training program and ready to implement ultrasound in your clinical practice. 

Q: Is there a geographic restriction?
A: While applicants from all countries are welcome, consideration is given to those in limited-resourced environments, including remote and rural practice settings. 

Q: How do I apply?
A: Complete the online application form and submit all required documentation at InteleosFoundation.org.  

Q: How will I be notified?
All applicants will be notified of their status via email. Please be sure your email is correct and checked frequently. 

Q: What if I’m not selected?
A: You are encouraged to reapply in future cycles if you continue to meet the eligibility criteria. The next application cycle will open on May 1, 2026. 

Q: How will this scholarship help my career?
A: Earning a recognized ultrasound credential can improve your professional credibility, open new career opportunities, and help you deliver improved patient care in your community. 

Q: What if I fail the exam the first time? 
A: The scholarship will only cover one attempt to pass your chosen certification. If you do not pass on your first attempt, you will be responsible for additional attempts for any exams. Note: You will also be ineligible to apply to future Foundation scholarships for ultrasound certification. 

Q: Will I receive money to pay for my certification exam?
A: No, the scholarship does not provide a cash award or reimbursement. Instead, the Inteleos Foundation will pay your certification exam fees directly to ARDMS, APCA, or the POCUS Certification Academy 

Q: Can I use AI to complete my application?
A: No, you should not use AI to answer any questions on your scholarship application We are looking for genuine responses from applicants. The application should take about 15 minutes. All applications will be screened and reviewed for the use of AI content, through the use of an AI detector.
