Yannick Ndefo Bopda
Yannick is a general practitioner with 4 years of point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) experience. Using the knowledge of local sonographers coupled with online resources, Yannick was able to teach himself to be a proficient POCUS user. He is passionate about leading by example to increase the use of POCUS in his community and throughout all of Africa.
Impact Project
Yannick’s project is a comprehensive initiative to expand Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) capabilities in Cameroon through four key components: hospital-based POCUS training, community outreach, scientific research, and e-learning. The project aims to train healthcare professionals, particularly in emergency and maternity departments, on using portable ultrasound devices for various applications, including pulmonary, renal, FAST, and obstetric examinations. It also includes a community outreach program to provide ultrasound services in remote areas, focusing on pregnant women, people with reduced mobility, and children. The scientific research component aims to generate evidence-based literature on POCUS in the African context, while the e-learning platform will facilitate continuous education. Success will be measured by the number of practitioners trained, skills acquired, pathologies diagnosed, scientific articles produced, and partnerships formed with other organizations.
