Impact Project
Shehla’s project aims to develop and implement a comprehensive Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) education program for medical and nursing students in Ontario, with a focus on serving indigenous and rural communities. The pilot project will create educational manuals covering POCUS basics for first and second-year students, and a more advanced curriculum focusing on pathology and diagnostic techniques for third and fourth-year students. The team plans to partner with Ontario training institutions for access to ultrasound machines and students and may hire sonologists to assist with training. The project will compare the effectiveness of ultrasound-based detection versus clinical judgment alone. Target beneficiaries include medical and nursing students in Ontario, as well as indigenous communities. This initiative aims to enhance early pathology detection skills and improve healthcare access in underserved areas.
