Impact Project
Luis’s project aims to integrate ultrasound education into the internal medicine curriculum, starting at the undergraduate level and continuing through residency. The program will be implemented at Hospital de Clinicas, targeting senior medical students and internal medicine residents. The curriculum will include lectures, small group practice sessions, and hands-on training with patients, covering equipment handling, physics, normal anatomy, pathologies, and guided procedures. The long-term vision involves a one-year program for medical students and a three-year program for residents, with plans to expand to other hospitals, especially in rural areas. Success will be measured by improvements in diagnostic accuracy, reduction in unnecessary study costs, better-guided treatments, and enhanced doctor-patient communication. The project’s sustainability relies on its potential integration into university curricula, demonstrating the effectiveness of this comprehensive ultrasound training approach in medical education.
