Karen Villar-Zarra
Karen is a USFNA CAP-certified pathologist with over six years of experience in Interventional Pathology procedures. In this time, Karen has expanded her procedural knowledge to include ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration, ultrasound-guided core-needle biopsy, and rapid onsite evaluation. Her pathology experiences encompass gynecological, breast, and surgical pathologies. Karen’s goal is to improve pathology practice through interventional pathology and point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS), to provide the best diagnostic performance in terms of time, quality, and efficiency.
Impact Project
Karen’s project proposal aims to expand and enhance POCUS offerings through several initiatives. She plans to develop new specialized ultrasound programs, including interventional, head and neck, and pathological nodule assessment. A key aspect is creating a collaboration between the Interventional Ultrasound for Pathologists Course in Madrid and Inteleos, potentially offering hands-on training for international participants. The project also involves translating existing programs from English to Spanish to benefit Latin American practitioners. The target audience includes pathologists, residents, and practitioners from related medical specialties.
