Abu Bakar has been working with musculoskeletal disorders since 2010 and is currently working as an associate professor at Brahmanbaria Medical College. He recently earned MSc in rheumatology from the University of South Wales, where he is still a visiting lecturer. His research interests include soft-tissue rheumatism (STR), low back pain (LBP), gout, osteoarthritis (OA), and MSUS
Impact Project
Abu Bakar’s POCUS-MSK project aims to develop new knowledge about musculoskeletal disorders by examining patients at a daycare clinic in Feni district, Bangladesh, using musculoskeletal ultrasound (MSK-USG). Led by a board-certified specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation with expertise in MSK-USG, the project will involve a multidisciplinary team including referring physicians, radiologists, orthopedists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
The project’s goals include encouraging more physicians to become certified in MSK-USG, improving diagnostic accuracy for musculoskeletal conditions, and promoting patient safety through the ALARA principle. Set to be the first of its kind in Bangladesh, the project will be based at Feni Clinic, a government-registered healthcare facility, and will require resources such as trained staff, ultrasound equipment, and a dedicated USG room with DICOM capabilities.
